After opening the season with consecutive wins, the New York Streets suffered their first loss in franchise history as they were beaten by the Carolina Cobras 48-33 on Saturday night in a battle of unbeaten teams at the Greensboro Coliseum. The defending NAL champion Cobras improve to 3-0 while the Streets dropped to 2-1 in their inaugural season.
James Summers scored on a five yard run with 13 seconds left in the second quarter to give Carolina a 22-17 lead at halftime. Streets defensive lineman Jason Towson recovered a fumble for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to bring the Streets within four points and then later in the fourth, Nemeth’s four yard pass to Jenkins cut Carolina’s lead to three. On the ensuing kickoff, Cedric Poole scored for the Cobras on a 50 yard touchdown return to put the game away.
Streets quarterback E.J. Nemeth threw for 251 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while Devonte Jenkins caught eight passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns. The Streets look to get back to their winning ways this Sunday May 12th when they visit the Orlando Predators for a 5pm kickoff. The Streets beat the Predators 70-31 in their home opener back on April 20th.
