For the final time this season, the Streets will take to their home field at the Westchester County Center when they welcome the defending National Arena League Champion Carolina Cobras to White Plains on Sunday night. It’s another opportunity for the Streets to plant some seeds for the 2020 season while also having a chance to compete against one of the best teams in the league.
“Carolina is a very good team and well coached,” said Streets Head Coach Rick Marsilio. “We are again expecting a battle and our guys are looking forward to making noise in the league to close out the 2019 season.”
After a 3-1 start, the Streets have dropped eight straight games and they bring a 3-9 record into Sunday night’s game against a Cobras team that has their sights set on a second straight NAL title. At 9-3, Carolina has locked down the number two seed and will have a home game in the first round of the playoffs.
On paper, it looks like a mismatch, but the Streets have been fighting hard during their tough stretch and they are eager to send a big message to the champs and the rest of the league with a strong showing on Sunday. Despite the losing streak, the Streets remain a confident team.
“(The Cobras) believe that they have our number and a guaranteed victory,” said Streets wide receiver Rob Jones. “But we are not one to be overlooked. “Last game (against Carolina) was decided by less than two plays so we are coming in with a chip on our shoulders and hungry for revenge.”
It should be a festive atmosphere for the home finale on Sunday night (7pm MSG). The fans have been entertained all season long with the return of Arena Football to New York after an eleven year absence and the County Center has provided an intimate home for the Streets giving the fans an up close and personal view of all the action. The Streets faithful will have one final shot this season and cheering on their team, perhaps going home with a souvenir, and getting some autographs.
Bringing Arena Football back to New York has been a team effort and the Streets are hoping to close out their home schedule with a bang.
“We’re expecting the biggest crowd of the season,” said Marsilio. “The Westchester County Staff has been great to work with and we appreciate the County Executive and his staff working with the Streets to make it happen.”
If you’ve been a fan of the Streets all season, you have one final chance to bring the noise to the County Center and help the Streets stun the defending champs. If you haven’t been to a game yet this season, first of all where have you been? And second…this is your last chance for 2019 and we hope to have you as full fledged Streets supporter in 2020!
