In their first ever game in the National Arena League, the New York Streets were able to hold off the Jacksonville Sharks 52-41 at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night to win their first game in franchise history.  Veteran Arena Football quarterback EJ Nemeth completed 15 out of 26 passes for 208 yards, four touchdown passes, and two interceptions to go along with two touchdown runs.

The Streets scored their first ever touchdown on their opening offensive drive in team history when Nemeth scored on a one yard touchdown run in the first quarter.  That was followed by the first deuce in team history as kicker Billy Deane booted the ensuing kickoff through the goalposts for two points.  On the Streets’ second possession, Nemeth threw the first touchdown pass in team history on a 3 yard strike to Devante Jenkins.

In the third quarter, Nemeth hooked up with Jenkins for the second time in the game on a seven yard touchdown pass and then Deane’s second deuce of the game extended the Streets’ lead to a game-high 19 points at 46-27.

The Streets closed out their scoring in the fourth quarter on Nemeth’s 10 yard touchdown pass to Jones.    Running back Robert Thomas had a 12 yard touchdown run as well as a touchdown catch right before halftime that extended the Streets lead to 30-21 at the intermission .

Rob Jones was the Streets’ top receiver with eight catches for 155 yards and a touchdown.   Defensively, Denzel Thompson led the Streets with 8.5 tackles, Jason Towson notched the first sack in Streets history and Herbert Moore picked off a pass for the first interception in team history.
