Phazahn Odom knows what it’s like to play football in the Big Apple. The Barnwell, South Carolina native was a star tight end for Fordham University in the Bronx from 2013 to 2016 and last week he signed with the Streets as a wide receiver joining an already solid group of pass catchers.

The former All-American is thrilled to be back in town.

“I’m very happy and excited to have the opportunity to play football again,” said Odom who went to training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017.  “It’s like a cherry on top to be able to play in New York City where I went to school. I’m anxious and excited to leave my mark here like I did at Fordham.”

At 6’8” tall, Odom adds a unique weapon for the Streets and quarterback David Legree who is also a big body at 6’5”.  The former All-Patriot League selection is a big target and that can be a huge asset for an Arena Football team especially as you get closer to the goal line when the field gets smaller.

He just has to get acclimated to Arena Football.

“Once he learns the indoor game, he has the ability to cause havoc for opposing defensive backs,” said Streets Head Coach Rick Marsilio.

During his career at Fordham, Odom reeled in 56 catches for 740 yards and nine touchdowns.  He dressed for this past Saturday night’s 68-55 loss to Columbus at the Westchester County Center but did not have any receptions.  He hopes to get on the stat sheet this Saturday when the Streets visit Jacksonville.

Odom says the Streets have the potential to light up scoreboards all over the National Arena League.

“The potential for this offense is through the roof,” said Odom.  “From what I saw last week, our quarterback is definitely surrounded by more than capable playmakers.  I’m excited to watch this offense grow from this point on.”

Phazahn Odom and the Streets are back in action this Saturday June 22nd when they travel to Florida for the first of back to back games against the Jacksonville Sharks.  Kickoff is at 7pm and you can watch the game on the National Arena League’s YouTube channel. The Streets will then welcome the Sharks to the Westchester County Center on Saturday June 29th.
